The family who owns the castle and has so lovingly restored it will give each guest a warm welcome.
Located a mere fifteen minutes from Blois in the centre of France in the Loire Valley and convenient to many of the grand châteaux of the Loire. The Loire Valley is the third most popular tourist destination in France, after Paris and the French Riviera. It is called the “Garden of France” and it has a mild climate because the Loire River draws the Atlantic climatic conditoins into the centre of France. The Chateau is less than 2 hours drive from the centre of Paris traffic permitting.
The grounds of this castle are as beautiful as one could imagine. Not only are there forty acres of woodlands and meadows, the flower gardens add lively color and beauty for everyone's enjoyment. It sits on forty acres of meadows and ancient oak woods, which is then surrounded by 4000 acres of forest with a network of paths for walking, cycling and riding.
The castle is adorned with stunning French architectural details such as carved plaster work, a monumental stone staircase, polished parquet floors, original tile work, wrought iron balustrades, lovely fireplaces of marble and stone, enormous French trumeau mirrors, trompe l'oeil paintings, polished parquet floors, fine wood and plaster work, and magnificent chandeliers and sconces. Outside are two spacious terraces that catch the morning and afternoon sun. The grand reception rooms, with their five meter-high ceilings, have floor to ceiling windows at the front and back allowing in light all day long. The grand reception rooms are monumental in scale, embellished with refined French detailing on panelled walls, and are both a fashionable and comfortable gathering place for guests of the château. They can be a place to enjoy solitude in front of the fire on a chilly night or to meet travelling companions on a sunny morning to plan the day's activities. Most of all, it is one of many such classical interior spaces that provide guests with an authentic French château experience.The Grand Hall with its spectacular stone stairway with its graceful and elegant sweep is the centrepiece of the château.
RestaurantDinner: for bed & breakfast guests (not in high season) (please notify at breakfast time or when making reserrvation) four courses plus wine and a cheese course is € 45 per person; children under 12 years of age € 10. Dinner not available on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings.

The rooms
Guests will be equally impressed with the accommodation at the château ~ six grand, elegant and beautifully furnished suites with period French furniture enhanced by fine fabrics in warm and inviting colors. Rooms are designed with the comfort of their guests in mind, and their occupants will find themselves truly experiencing château life as it is intended.
The
Louis suite is the premier suite and is located on the ground floor opening onto a private terrace with views of the lake and meadows. It is a magnificent oak panelled suite measuring 36 m2 plus another 44 m2 for the ensuite and dressing room. The suite has a beautiful king size canopied bed, new flat-screen colour TV and DVD player, Henri II writing desk and mirrored armoire, and a comfortable sofa for relaxing. The suite has a stunning rococo brass chandelier with 18 arms with solid brass dancing cherubs gracing the centre. Outside on the terrace you can recline on your own sun-lounge and soak up the afternoon sun. There is ample storage for your items of luggage in the armoire and built-in cupboards in the dressing room.
The
Henri suite is located on the first floor on the south-east corner with views of the lake and the front and back meadows and surrounding forest. It is a palatial suite with a beautiful crystal chandelier and with french toile in panels on the walls. The suite has a super-king sized bed (or two twin beds if you require) and measures 36 m2 plus another 18m2 for the ensuite. It is our only suite with views front, back and side to the lake. The suite has a new flat-screen colour TV and DVD player, writing desk and a coin de lit (french day bed which can be used by an additional person staying in the suite), and a comfortable sofa for relaxing. This room is large enough to accommodate an additional bed if you need to sleep four people in this room. The ensuite is typically French with lots of wooden cupboards originally used for storing the huge dresses of the 18th century and with black and white marble floor tiles. There is an incredibly deep French roll top bath original to the chateau in the ensuite for your relaxation.
The
Medici suite is located on the first floor on the north-west corner of the chateau with views out over the chapel, front meadow and surrounding forest. It is a beautiful suite with French toile in panels on the walls measuring 25 m2 plus an additional 10m2 for the ensuite. There is a stone fireplace in the bedroom. The suite has a emperor (even wider than a super-king) size bed or twin beds if you require and a new flat-screen colour TV and DVD player, a writing desk and a comfortable sofa suite for relaxing. There is an incredibly deep French roll top bath original to the chateau in the ensuite for your relaxation. There is ample original built-in storage in the ensuite.
The
Pompadour Suite is in the middle of the east side on the first floor with views out over the front meadow and the surrounding woods. The trumeau mirror in this room is truly beautiful with two small angels looking over you. The suite has a stone fireplace and measures 26m2 with an extra 7m2 for the ensuite. The chambre has a super-king size bed or twin beds if you require, a new colour TV and DVD player, a Louis table and a comfortable chairs for relaxing. The ensuite has beautiful old mirror panels and an incredibly deep French roll top bath original to the chateau in the ensuite for your relaxation. There is a walk in shower and ample original built in storage in the bedroom and the ensuite.
The
Diane Suite is in the centre of the first floor off the landing of the sweeping stone staircase. The panelling in this room is the fanciest in all of our suites and has exquisite detail. The suite has a stone fireplace and it measures 25m2 with an extra 7m2 for the ensuite. The suite has a super-king size four poster bed and a new colour TV and DVD player, a Louis table and a comfortable sofa for relaxing. The ensuite has black and white marble and an incredibly deep French roll top bath original to the chateau for your relaxation. There is a walk in shower and ample original built in storage in the bedroom.
The
Proust Suite is in the middle of the west side on the first floor with views out over the front meadow and the surrounding woods. It is our family suite and can sleep four. The second bedroom with twin antique French corbeille beds can be accessed through an adjoining door if you require extra accommodation for children. The suite measures 30m2 with an extra 7m2 for the ensuite. The chambre has a super-king size bed and a new colour TV and DVD player, a Louis table and a comfortable armchairs for relaxing. The suite has a stone fireplace and beautiful French mirrored built in dressing table surrounded by swags of French fabric. It has a bath with overhead shower for your relaxation and a lovely large old trumeau mirror. There is ample original built in storage in the bedroom and the ensuite.
Good to know
Fine Egyptian cotton bed linens and duvets of goose and duck down on super king size beds in each room make one's château experience even more luxurious. For those with allergies, microfiber duvets and pillows are available.
Guests are provided with towelling robes and slippers to relax in. Each suite is equiped with a hairdryer.
Guests can even spend some time pampering themselves in a wonderful, four-person, infrared sauna.
The kitchen is equipped with two new ovens, a four gas burner hob, two electric hotplates, new microwave, commercial dishwasher, domestic dishwasher, large side by side fridge and freezer with overflower refridgerator provision in the cellar.
Activities
Four minutes to a newly refurbished pristine swimming pool and tennis courts. The chateau sits in the middle of 4000 acres of oak forest perfect for walking and mountain biking. The Loire River is 15 minutes away for sailing, canoeing and fishing. Horse-riding can be arranged from the local riding club. Hot air balloons can take off from the chateau grounds weather permitting. Joy flights can be taken from Blois Aeroport 15 minutes away.There is a myriad of chateaux and gardens to visit from 15 minutes to 1 hour away. The Loire Valley is the most beautiful wine region of the world and entire area is dotted with vineyards for wine-tasting. Gourmets will be delighted. The local French cuisine is superb. Goat’s cheese is a speciality. Serious retail therapy can be enjoyed at Blois and Tours. Futuroscope, France’s famous futuristic family theme-park is 90 minutes away and a must see for families with teenagers who come for an extended stay. Paris is less than 70 minutes away by fast-speed TGV.
Sightseeing
Cities of Tours and Blois. Châteaux within easy drive: Blois, Beauregard, Chambord, Chaumont, Cheverny, Chenonceau, Clos Luce, Amboise, Usse. Day trips include visits to the châteaux at Villandry, Langeais, Azay-le-Rideau and Beaugency, and into Paris.
History
The stately Château de la Loire is a superb example of Renaissance architecture, was built for a Prussian prince and his wife in 1797 ~ on sixteenth century foundations ~ to provide a grand place to entertain the elite of Europe. Marcel Proust (1871 - 1922) famous french intellectual, novelist and critic was a good friend of Calman Levi, french publisher who owned the castle at the beginning of the 20th century. Proust stayed at the chateau on many occasions. Proust is best known as the author of "In Search of Lost Time", a monumental piece of work comprising 7 volumes spanning some 3,200 pages and teeming with more than 2,000 characters. In his day, Proust was claimed to be the greatest novelist of the 20th century.
