Designed by Visconti, and built by Rene Honde, the chateau de Challain was completed in 1854 as a private residence for Count Rochefoucauld and his family. The structure is a marvel to behold; 150ft limestone walls contain 365 windows, 52 fireplaces, and 12 turrets, as well as countless sculptural details along the facade. The splendor continues inside. Masterfully carved wood paneling and cabinetry, stunning hand-painted ceilings, and flawlessly chosen decor make each salon an historic holiday’s experience.  Situated on beautiful grounds, the Chateau complex makes up one corner of a small village, which also has shops, a cathedral, and many summer events. The Chateau is now open for both overnight guests and day visitors, and also hosts wedding receptions and other events, your chateau holidays in France.

The Chateau de Challain is located only thirty minutes outside the town of Angers in the Loire Valley, the region of Castles, and only one and a half hours from Paris by TGV (High Speed Train). The castle is easy to get to from England and Ireland by flying direct into Nantes airport. The castle is situated at the corner of a quaint village in the western Loire Valley region of France. The castle has the most lovely decorated and spacious guestrooms, the Empress Suite, the Towerroom, Toile de Joile, the Romance Suite and the Rochefoucauld Suite. Roomrates include a wonderful breakfast in the souterrain of the castle. A great experience to have breakfast at a fireplace, whilst enjoying an authentic decor.
